Greece Deters Russian Oil Transfers with Longest Navy Drill Yet

The Greek Navy resumed drills off its coast, allowing it to block Russia’s ability to use the area for STS transfers, according to Bloomberg.

  • The exercises will take place in the Laconian Gulf, around 110 miles southwest of Athens, and will last until July 15.
  • The Navy’s previous exercises ended June 3, allowing a small number of tankers to return to the area.
  • Greece commenced the exercises in May as a measure to stifle STS activity among tankers carrying Russian oil.
  • Since, Russia has moved its STS activity near the Spanish exclave of Melilla in North Africa.
