Grifols: Statement From Spanish Regulator. Process "May Take Weeks".

HEALTHCARE

Grifols (GRF SM); Spanish regulator (CNMV) says company has submitted response to its questions arising from the Gotham short-selling report. The two-page statement indicates:

  • Information review: the regulator has requested info from Grifols, some of its shareholders and other entities to verify the accuracy and completeness of Grifols’ published financials.
  • Gotham’s conduct: this also being reviewed in terms of content, dissemination and market operations, especially as it pertains to European rules on market abuse. We believe the CNMV will be cognisant of the situation BaFin in Germany put itself in over attacking a range of parties, including the Financial Times, over Wirecard. This was ultimately found to be a major fraud.
  • The regulator sees no reason to suspend Grifols’ shares from trading at this point.

BBG is reporting that this review “may take weeks”. The key ’25 bond, which is the subject of much refi speculation (to which Grifols indicates the likely successful completion of the ShanghaiRAAS deal largely answers), is trading over 50bp tighter today (AN216266 Corp), one of the best performers in the EuroHY index.
