Haddad, BCB’s Campos Neto At G20 Meetings In US Today

  • There was some respite for local assets yesterday, aided by the move lower in core yields, with swap rates falling by more than 20bp at the long end of the curve and USDBRL down by 0.8%. Nonetheless, swap rates remain meaningfully higher on the week, while the bullish theme in USDBRL is still intact, with attention on 5.3330 next. Yesterday, BCB President Campos Neto said that the FX market is repricing risk premium, adding that the BCB will only intervene when there is an "episode of liquidity or dysfunction" in the market.
  • Finance Minister Haddad will lead the 2nd G20 ministerial meeting at the IMF headquarters at 1400BST(0900ET). He is expected to speak at a press conference after the meeting and is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with China’s Finance Minister Lan Fo’an in the afternoon. The BCB's Campos Neto is also in Washington for a series of meetings, including the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Presidents Meeting at 1500BST. Separately, Petrobras CEO Prates will speak at an event held by the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas in Rio at 1300BST. On the macro front, no data are due today.
  • In other news, Argentina President Milei has proposed a meeting with President Lula to improve high level relations between the countries. The invite was offered by Argentina Foreign Minister Mondino on a visit to Brazil this week, but it did not specify a date or place for the meeting.
