Health Min Warns Of Lockdown For Easter: BBG

ITALY

Bloomberg reporting that Health Minister Roberto Speranza has stated that Italy could be in COVID-19 lockdown over the Easter period (3-5 April).

  • Comes as reports emerge of potential strict lockdown restrictions around large cities including Rome and Milan due to an uptick in new cases.
  • Italy has seen a notable uptick in new infections in recent weeks following a long period of decline.
  • Prime Minister Mario Draghi has sought to ramp up the country's vaccination programme, with a new emphasis on vaccinating the elderly (the most likely to suffer severe complications from COVID) - mirroring strategies in the UK and US - rather than prioritising generally-younger key workers as in the plan set up by the Conte gov't.
