Health Ministry Set To Announce New Covid Restrictions Tomorrow

SOUTH KOREA

A senior health official has said that South Korea will announce new Covid mitigation measures tomorrow (Dec 22) to be in place over the festive period. It is understood the new guidelines would not be as strict as the toughest proposed measures. The health ministry said if the toughest scenario were imposed there would be 3 or 4 days notice.

  • The latest measures today included a ban of gatherings with 5 or more people, which will be reviewed on Jan 3.
  • New daily cases dropped to under 1,000 at the weekend, but a Yonhap article asserts this is due to less testing over the weekend.
  • Total cases are now over 50,000, adding 10,000 since Dec 10.
