High Rep. for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell......>

EU
EU: High Rep. for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell speaking after an EU foreign
affairs ministers' meeting in Brussels held earlier today.
- Says that EU foreign ministers called on Turkey to stop its 'destabilising
practices' in the Mediterranean. This refers to Turkey's drilling for
hydrocarbons in disputed waters near Cyprus and its actions in Libya, where
Turkey has supported the UN-recognised Government of National Accord through
naval, drone, and intelligence assistance.
- Threatens more EU penalties for Turkey over its drilling operations, with
proposals in place to bring in sanctions on Ankara.
- Borrell's comments on Hong Kong are largely boilerplate, criticising Beijing
and supporting HK's autonomy. Says that the EU will develop a coordinated reply
to the issue.
