House Approves Minimum Wage Provisional Measure

BRAZIL
  • The provisional measure that increases the minimum wage and expands the range for income tax exemption was approved by the lower house yesterday. The text creates policy for valuing the minimum wage and provides for a real increase equivalent to the positive variation of GDP in the two years prior to the new value being in effect. It goes to the Senate now.
  • Moody's is unlikely to change Brazil's rating in 2023. The agency wants to see the effective implementation of the fiscal framework before any changes may be implemented. “In the medium term, the framework should lead to a trajectory of fiscal consolidation, but it remains to be seen whether it will be implemented. It needs to be credible”, Moody’s said.
  • Governor Campos Neto will meet Senate’s Independent Fiscal director later today and the domestic focus will be on tomorrow’s mid-August reading of IPCA inflation.
