House To Vote On Biden Impeachment Inquiry Next Week

US

The House of Representatives Rules Committee will meet at 1000ET (1500GMT, 1600CET) on Tuesday 12 Dec to markup a resolution that will direct a 'framework' regarding the continuing impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. This comes ahead of the debate and vote on the House floor to also take place next week, likely on Wednesday 13 Dec.

  • House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is seen having moved towards the whole House having to vote on approving an impeachment inquiry after the White House harked back to GOP criticisms of Congressional Democrats in 2019, who opened an impeachment inquiry into former President Donald Trump without a full vote.
  • It is seen as likely that the vote will pass, despite the Republicans' narrow majority in the House, with centrist GOP'ers seen as leaning towards approval.
  • ABC News: "House Republicans have alleged, without proof, that Biden was directly involved in and benefited from his family's business dealings. The White House has called the inquiry "extreme politics at its worst." Lawmakers have held one public hearing, which offered several contentious moments but no new evidence."
