Hungary Granted Exemptions from Potential European Gas Sanctions

Hungary will be exempt from any potential European gas cap deals according to its prime minister Viktor Orban today. Any potential gas price cap will not apply to long term deals.

  • •Hungary has a 15-year gas supply deal with Russia’s Gazprom.
  • •"We got an exemption from the gas price cap so that will not jeopardize Hungary's security of gas supply." Orban said via his Facebook page.
  • •He also said joint gas buying “will not be mandatory for Hungary."
  • •Hungarian officials had said prior to the meeting they would seek exemptions from new EU sanctions this week.
