HUNGARY: Hungarian Government May Unveil Economic Action Plan Today

HUNGARY
  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced a new economic programme at a meeting of Fidesz's parliamentary group focusing on affordable housing, subsidised loans for workers and capital injections for SMEs, local newspaper the Daily Magyar Nemzet reported on Sunday. According to Bloomberg, the Fidesz party may hold a press conference following the meeting. National Economy Minister Marton Nagy said last week the plan would be unveiled soon.
  • According to Politico, Orban has concocted a way to let former US President Trump, if he successfully makes it to the White House in November, to wriggle out of a $50bn loan the US, the EU and leaders of the G7 offered to Ukraine. Politico note that this would allow Trump to tell Republican voters that, if elected, he won’t give Ukraine another cent.
  • Prime Minister Viktor Orban will participate in the Berlin Process summit today along with the leaders of some other EU countries and Western Balkan nations. Meanwhile, Economy Minister Marton Nagy will provide a press briefing on tourism deregulation.
  • There are no major data releases scheduled for today, or indeed for the entirety of the week.
