HUNGARY: Hungary Could Issue EUR500m of Samurai Bonds This Year

HUNGARY
  • Citing an interview with the CEO of Hungary’s debt management agency, Reuters reported yesterday that Hungary has limited room to issue foreign-currency bonds next year given a rule that caps the proportion of such sovereign debt at 30%.
  • On the FX front, a smaller Chinese panda bond issuance next year was “likely scenario” alongside a euro or dollar bond sale. Hungary could also still issue as much as EUR500m worth of Samurai bonds in the autumn of this year. The head of the office, Zoltan Kurali, told MNI as much in an exclusive interview earlier this year (see here).
  • There are no major data releases or speaker events scheduled for today. PPI figures for July will cross the wires tomorrow (Prior: +2.7% Y/Y). Our review of this week's NBH’s meeting, with a summary of sell-side analyst views, can be found here.
