HUNGARY: Orban Says Peak Flood Expected to Leave Hungary by Mid-Next Week
HUNGARY
- The flood of the Danube is expected to peak in Budapest on Saturday night, and the brunt of the wave will pass Hungary by the middle of next week, Prime Minister Viktor Orban told a press conference this morning.
- As a reminder, local news site Portfolio reported yesterday that Hungarian employers and the government agreed to raise the minimum wage over a three-year period. The plan would see the minimum wage rise to 50% of the average gross wage ex-bonuses. Note that the minimum wage is currently HUF 266,800 a month, while the average gross wage ex-bonuses was HUF 593,000 in the first half this year.
- Hungary is hosting a conference on the future of NATO, with officials from central Europe speaking at the event. Meanwhile, Hungary remains on flood watch.
- There are no data releases scheduled for the remainder of the week, with local focus shifting to the NBH decision on September 24.
