Hurricane Beryl Intensifying As It Nears Texas

ENERGY

Hurricane Beryl has intensified as it nears the Texas coast. By the time it reaches landfall near Houston on Monday it could be a category 2 storm due to support from warm waters in the Gulf.

  • Closures of major oil ports around Corpus Christi, Galveston and Houston ahead of the storm could disrupt crude oil exports, shipments of crude to refineries, and oilproducts from the plants.
  • Some refineries are reducing operations while the storm passes the region but it is not expected to cause significant damage.
  • Freeport LNG's liquefaction trains 1, 2 and 3 and a pre-treatment facility were proactively shutdown due to impacts associated with Beryl.
  • It intends to resume production as soon as Beryl passes.
