POWER: IAEA Aids Estonia in Developing Legal Framework for Nuclear Power
POWER
The IAEA is assisting Estonia in developing a comprehensive legal framework for its nuclear power program, focused on SMRs, it said.
- IAEA experts reviewed Estonia’s draft nuclear law and provided feedback based on international standards and guidance.
- The move comes after Fermi Energia initiated the process to build Estonia’s first nuclear power plant, with a capacity of 600MW, applying to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications for a national spatial plan, it said in mid-January.
- In June 2024, Estonia’s parliament passed a resolution supporting nuclear energy, clearing the path for legal and regulatory framework creation.
