IAEA: 'Iran Continues To Violate Many Key Provisons Of 2015 Deal'

IRAN

In a damning quarterly report, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) states that Iran 'continues to voilate many key provisions of the 2015 nuclear deal, including limitations on uranium enrichment and enriched uranium stockpiles' according to Reuters.

  • Report states that 'Iran's enriched uranium stock included an estimated 43.1kg of uranium enriched up to 60% purity, near weapons-grade...' Adds that '42kg of uranium enriched to 60% purity is theoretically enough to make a nuclear bomb if further enriched'.
  • IAEA: 'Iran has not presented technically convincing explanations for uranium particles discovered at three undeclared sites'.
  • Given the findings in the IAEA report it is likely that the body's probe into the Iranian nuclear programme will remain open for the time being. Findings likely to be utilised by Israel and other Iran hawks as justification for not allowing the resumption of a nuclear deal between Iran and P5+1, and potentially even strikes or cyber attacks on Iranian targest to degrade Iran's ability to enrich more uranium.
