IEA Not Started Emergency Stock Discussions Amid Middle East Tension: Platts

The IEA has not started discussions about oil stock releases, but members states have asked for monitoring of the situation in the Middle East, Keisuke Sadamori, Director, Energy Markets and Security, told Platts at the Asia Hydrogen & LNG Conference.

  • "But if it [Israel-Hamas conflict] spreads to the neighbouring region of the Middle East, including Iran, then it could have [an] impact on the market,” Sadamori said
  • “So what we can say is that we are currently monitoring the market very closely and stand ready, prepared for whatever option we may need," Sadamori added.
  • Sadamori also said that no stock release is being discussed, with no specific action planned.
