IMF Deal Expected, Nation Rejects Russia-Sourced LNG

  • In Argentina, local media reported that the government may announce new exchange rate measures on Friday to advance in talks with the IMF that are taking place in Washington DC, seeking to close a new agreement on the country’s credit program.
    • Earlier in the week it was reported that officials expect to close a staff-level agreement with the IMF by Friday after months of negotiations over the $44 billion program, according to two Economy Ministry officials who asked not to be named.
  • In separate news, a tanker containing LNG that originated from a Russia supplier and was loaded onto a Gunvor Group-chartered vessel off the coast of France was turned away this week by Argentine energy firm Enarsa, according to officials. According to economy minister Massa, the LNG was from sanctioned company; Gunvor says Russia origin was known, no sanctions on LNG.
