IMF Officials To Arrive In Argentina Thursday

ARGENTINA
  • IMF officials are expected in Argentina this week to start negotiating with the new administration on the $44 billion program. The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires on Thursday, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said during his morning news conference Tuesday, without detailing who’s coming nor how long they’re expected to stay.
  • "On Thursday, an IMF delegation will be received by the chief of staff (Nicolas Posse) and the economy minister (Luis Caputo)," said spokesman Adorni, without giving details about the content of the meetings.
  • Newly elected President Javier Milei has been attempting to deliver on his pledge of radical change in Argentina. Measures announced in his first three weeks in office have included a sharp currency devaluation, a surprise interest-rate cut, a broad decree deregulating the economy and ambitious legislation that could enhance his powers and weaken Congress. And just ahead of the new year, a key adviser said further policy changes will be unveiled soon. (BBG)
