IMF Supports New Economy Minister As Conditions Deteriorate

  • IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said Monday in a tweet that Argentine Economy Minister Silvina Batakis “agreed on the importance of decisive program implementation.”
    • Georgieva met Batakis in-person for the first time in Washington Monday afternoon and wrote in a tweet:
    • “Another productive meeting with minister @sbatakis. We welcome her initial efforts to strengthen fiscal sustainability and agreed on the importance of decisive program implementation to address Argentina‘s economic & social challenges”.
  • Additionally, Batakis will meet with investors in Washington on Tuesday and then separately, with representatives from Amazon Inc., Google and General Motors, among others.
  • Argentina’s Mendoza province opens auction to sell as much as 3.97b pesos in floating rate local notes maturing in 2023
