UK
UK: Important day in the timeline of the UK general election, with the deadline
for the delivery of nomination papers coming up at 1600GMT (1100ET, 1700CET)
- After today we will know the parties standing in each of the UK's 650 seats in
the House of Commons and the identities of the candidates.
- Significant focus has been on the Liberal Democrats and their internal debate
as whether to stand candidates in seats where the sitting Remain-supporting
Labour MP is vulnerable to a Conservative challenge. In Canterbury the initial
Lib Dem candidate stood down and advocated a vote for Lab MP Rosie Duffield, but
Lib Dem central office has said it will nominate another candidate.
- Also focus on the Brexit Party and which seats it stands in. Leader Nigel
Farage has already stated no BXP candidates will stand in 317 seats won by Con
in 2017, but has faced calls not to stand candidates in Leave-voting Lab seats
the Conservatives are seeking to win to secure a majority and deliver Brexit.
- Unlikely that BXP will agree to this, Farage has stated his party will stand
in Lab marginals and that they, not the Conservatives, are best placed to win
the seats.
