EU: In the wake of the ratification of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement by the
European Parliament last night, the final paving stone on the UK's path to
exiting the EU at 2300GMT on Friday 31 Jan, focus now shifts to how negotiations
on the future EU-UK relationship will unfold.
- On Monday 3 Feb, the European Commission (EC) is set to publish a draft
negotiating mandate on the future of EU-UK relations.
- Then on Wednesday 5 Feb, the European Parliament's (EP) newly-established UK
Co-ordination Group will have its inaugural meeting.
- This replaces the EP's Brexit steering group. Led by German MEP David
McAllister from the centre-right European People's Party grouping, the UK
Co-ordination group is set to be the voice of the EP in negotiations, working
with the Task Force for Relations with the UK (the EC's primary vehicle for
dealing with Brexit issues).
- MEPs will then vote on a resolution regarding EU-UK negotiations in the
Strasbourg plenary session on 12-13 Feb.
