Increase Demand for Barges after Capacity Reduction on Zydeco Pipe

OIL

Reduced capacity of the Shell-operated Zydeco oil pipeline has prompted traders to seek barges to send crude from Houston and Nederland, Texas, to the eastern US Gulf, according to Bloomberg sources.

  • Capacity reduction on the line has supported prices for some US physical crude grades leading to higher than normal demand for barging of domestic crude along the Gulf Coast.
  • LLS was yesterday trading at a 9$/bbl premium to Nymex WTI futures, the highest level since April 2020.
