India's GSPC Seeking Commissioning Cargo for Chhara LNG Terminal

India’s Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. is looking for a commissioning cargo for the Chhara terminal for delivery in April according to Bloomberg.

  • The terminal with a capacity of 5mtpa is being developed by Hindustan Petroleum Corp.
  • Full import capacity at the Chhara facility is not expected in 2024. A breakwater facility to protect from choppy seas due to the monsoon season will be completed in April 2025.
  • India is aiming to increase LNG import capabilities to raise the share of natural gas in its energy mix from 7% to 15% by 2030 to reduce dependence on dirtier fossil fuels.
  • The Chhara facility and Swan Energy Ltd.’s Jafrabad import facility are expected to begin operations this year to add to the existing seven terminals, according to BNEF.
