India's Modi on First Russia Visit in 5-Years

Russia’s President Putin is hosting India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday for the first time in five years.

  • No major announcements are expected from the visit but it is set to highlight that the relationship between the nations remains strong, especially as factors like energy trade have grown since the invasion of Ukraine.
  • Modi may also be looking to press Putin on his ties with China, the other main outlet for Russian energy post sanctions. Relations between India and China remain at a low point since a 2020 border dispute.
