India To Build Smaller Refineries To Raise Refining Capacity To 9mbpd

India will look at building smaller oil refineries because of problems in acquiring land, while the country plans to raise its refining capacity to 9mbpd, India’s Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said.

  • “Refineries are high cost. We are looking at a large number of 20mn t/yr, smaller ones, because if I make it too big than land acquisition and other issues come in the way,” Puri said.
  • India is planning a roadmap to increase its refining capacity to 9mbpd from currently around 5.2mbpd, he said.
