Indian Fuel Consumption Dips 5.7% in July m-o-m

Indian fuel consumption totalled 17.62 million tonnes in July, down 5.7% from 18.68 million tonnes in June but up 6.1% year-on-year according to Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell figures.

  • Sales of gasoline were 6.8% higher from a year earlier at 2.8 million tonnes. They fell from 3 million tonnes in June because of monsoon rains and higher pump prices.
  • Diesel sales slipped to 6.6 million tonnes in July, down from 7.7 million tonnes in June.
  • Cooking gas or LPG sales increased to 2.4 million tonnes in July, up from 2.2 million tonnes in June, while naphtha sales rose to 1.1 million tonnes in July, up from 1 million tonnes in June.
