Indian Oil Imports From Russia Rose to 4-Month High in November

India’s imports of Russian oil rose to a four-month high of 1.6mbpd in November, up by 3.1% month on month, with Russia accounting for around 36% of India’s oil imports last month, data from trade sources showed, cited by Reuters.

  • Total November oil imports into India stood at 4.5mbpd, down by 4.5% on October levels but up by 13% on the year.
  • Russia was India’s top supplier in November accounting for around 36% of all imports followed by the Middle East with around 46%, led by shipments from Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
  • In the first eight months of this fiscal year that began April 1, India's imports of Russian oil rose by 77% on the year to an average 1.7mbpd, the data showed.
  • Higher imports of Russian oil have weighed on OPEC’s share of Indian oil supplies that fell to 48% in April-November, down from 62% for the same period last year.
