MALAYSIA:  Industrial Production Rises Less than Expected in December.

  • Malaysia’s December Industrial Production rose +4.6% in December, missing estimates of +5.0%, but up from the month prior of +3.6%
  • Manufacturing sales value YoY jumped +5.7% in December, up from +4.5% the month prior.
  • Manufacturing continues to be the driving force for the Malaysian economy rising +5.8% YoY.
  • However manufacturing production in the monthly figures saw a decline in manufacturing by -1.5%.
  • Despite today’s data, Prime Minister Anwar has been saying that the longer term prospects for the Malaysian economy remain very bright.
  • The BNM’s next meeting is not until March 6th.
