MNI BRIEF: Treasury's Bessent - US Strong Dollar Policy Intact
MNI (WASHINGTON) - Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday America's strong dollar policy remains intact, while also commenting that he is happy to see that the trajectory of U.S. government borrowing is on the decline but doesn't expect any changes in borrowing plans that were issued earlier in the week.
"The strong dollar policy is completely intact with President Trump," he said in an interview with Bloomberg TV. "I was very happy at his Economic Club of New York speech in August when he re-emphasized the importance of maintaining the dollar reserve currency status."
The Treasury secretary also said the U.S. government is well-financed into the third quarter and he's happy to see the trajectory of borrowing dropping but doesn't "foresee any changes in the issuance for the foreseeable future."
Bessent repeated earlier comments that he and President Donald Trump are hoping to see interest rates generally come down, with a specific focus on the 10-year yield. "With the President's policies of energy dominance, deregulation and non inflationary growth, I think that the ten-year is going to naturally come down," Bessent said.
