Inflation exp creep higher - but data collected prior to energy cap

  • Most significant thing from the DMP survey: Inflation in 3-years time expected at 4.8% (up from 4.2% in August) - this is something MPC members, particularly Cathy Mann, have been vocal about. She's more concerned about these medium-term expectations moving higher than the near-term which is more spot-driven.
  • This survey was conducted between 2-16 September (the energy price cap announcement was 8 September - so this probably reflects more concerns about energy prices than you would get now). So we still can't read too much into it from that point of view...
