Infra Min Denies Black Sea Grain Corridor Suspension Reports

UKRAINE

The Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry has denied earlier reports that the new Black Sea grain corridor is suspended. The claims that the corridor had been suspended initially came from the Kyiv-based Barva Invest consultancy and UK-based maritime security company Ambrey and were later written up by Reuters.

  • However, the Infrastructure Ministry statement reads: "The information regarding the cancellation or unscheduled stoppage of the temporary corridor for the movement of civilian vessels from and to the ports of Great Odesa is not true. All available routes established by the Armed Forces Navy are valid and used by civilian vessels. Given that the corridor was implemented in extremely difficult conditions of Russia's military aggression, its operation takes into account the military situation and weather conditions..."
  • In the aftermath of the report, Reuters wrote: "Chicago wheat futures , a global price benchmark, turned higher on the news to recover from an earlier two-week low. They later traded up about 1%. Wheat futures had been pressured this week by hopes that Ukraine would expand grain exports, as well as rain relief in dry crop belts worldwide."
