IPSOS Poll Demonstrates Covid Headache For White House

WHITE HOUSE

An IPSOS report has shown that Americans are divided on the way forward for managing the Pandemic.

  • Respondents are equally divided amongst four available options.
    • Open up and back to normal with no Coronavirus mandates or requirements.
    • Move towards opening up but still take some precautions.
    • Mostly keep coronavirus precautions in place.
    • Increase mask mandates and coronavirus vaccine requirements.
  • The report demonstrates the political minefield the White House must navigate when updating Covid-19 guidelines and may explain why the White House chose to make no substantive adjustment to their Covid guidelines at the Covid presser today.
  • The Covid Response team instead deferred decision-making process to the state level. They stated that the CDC and the White House understands the need to be flexible but will not change guidelines on mask mandates in schools and high-risk areas.
  • This strategy suggests that the White House is aware of the divergent public opinion and has chosen to avoid polarising guidelines. Preferring to point at successes in the vaccine program and positive jobs data. Expect more decision making at the state-level and fewer challenges on policy from Washington.
