IRA Likely To Be On The Agenda During Adeyemo Trip To Germany

US-EU

Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo will travel to Belgium and Germany today for a three-day trip to discuss, "Russia sanctions and the implementation of a price cap on Russian oil."

  • Although the trip is ostensibly centered around issues related to the war in Ukraine, a Treasury Department statement reads: “Adeyemo will also participate in a roundtable with German business leaders to discuss America’s strong bilateral trade relationship with Germany…” suggesting that the simmering trade dispute with Germany and the European Union over the Inflation Reduction Act will also figure on the agenda.
  • Bloomberg reported this week that, Adeyemo, "is emerging as the front-runner to succeed Brian Deese as top White House economic adviser."
  • Politico reported today: "Laurel Blatchford will join Treasury as Director of Inflation Reduction Act Implementation. Huge job."
