OIL

Iraq is unlikely to push for a revision of its Opec+ production baseline at the group's upcoming meeting according to an Argus source with knowledge of the matter.

  • Iraq's new prime minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said on 15 November that he wanted to see Iraq’s share of the OPEC+ crude target reviewed upwards but the Argus source said it would not take place at the next meeting.
  • “The market situation today does not allow for an increase in baselines, whether for Iraq or any other Opec+ members." Argus quoted the source as saying.
  • A string of OPEC+ ministers came out over the last week to deny rumors that OPEC+ was set to increase production by 500,000 bpd which was reported by the WSJ.
  • Iraq is aiming to increase its oil production markedly in the coming years. The head of Somo, Alaa Alyasri, said the plan is to increase to around 7mn b/d by 2027.
  • Iraqi crude production stood at 4.6mn b/d in October, 50,000 b/d below its target for the month, according to Argus estimates.
