Ireneusz Dabrowski Says MPC Won't Rush Into Hasty Rate Cuts

NBP

Monetary Policy Council member Ireneusz Dabrowski told PAP newswire that the rate-setting panel is unlikely to rush into loosening policy prematurely, adding that a rate cut seems possible in the horizon of the NBP's next inflation projection.

  • "I don't know what the MPC will do as this is a collegial body, but in my opinion for sure there will be no hasty interest rate cuts whatsoever," PAP cited Dabrowski as saying. "At the same time, I see a possibility of an interest-rate cut in the horizon of the next inflation projection, but it is hard to say when it could happen."
  • The official said that "we definitely see an improvement" in the March macroeconomic projection compared with the one from November and noted that "the next projection will be probably even better when it comes to the CPI," as external factors can be expected to support disinflation.
