Irish FM:  EU-UK Trust Is Being Restored, But Still 'Miles Apart' On Fish

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney speaking to RTE Radio says that the UK Internal Market bill (which would allow the UK gov't to override parts of the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement) damaged trust between the UK and the EU, calling the bill a negotiating tactic that backfired, but adds that in recent days the trust is being restored and talks are 'back on track'.

  • Says that the EU does not have to 'give in' on fishing [one of the major sticking points in talks], that the two sides are still 'miles apart' on the issue.
  • Argues that the issues are being presented as one side winning, the other losing. Says instead that the two sides should be looking for mutual benefit.
