The ISM Mfg index plunged to 41.5 in April, the lowest level since Apr 2009. The
decline was driven by a sharp drop in Production (-20.2pt), Employment (-16.3pt)
and New Orders (-15.1) with Production slipping to a series low, while
Employment fell to the lowest since Jun 1949. Supplier Deliveries remained
elevated, rising to the highest since Apr 1974. Exports slumped by 11.3pt to
35.3, while imports edged up slightly to 42.7 in April. Prices eased again in
April, falling to a 51-month low of 35.3. Meanwhile, Inventories rose by 2.8pt
to 49.7 in April, while order backlogs dropped by 8.1pt to 37.8.
