Israel-Palestine Conflict News: Netanyahu Shows No Signs of Letting Up

  • Overnight Sunday -Monday, Israel launched dozens of strikes in the space of a few minutes across the Gaza strip as tensions escalated in the region.
    • Israeli army says it hit homes of nine 'high-ranking' Hamas commanders as well as a third round of strikes on the 15km Hamas underground tunnel network AKA the "metro" – which it says is now destroyed.
    • 3,125 Hamas rockets have been fired with 90% taken out by Israel's Iron Dome. Gaza experiencing limited power after airstrikes damaged a power station
  • Netanyahu said Israel's attacks were continuing at "full force" and would "take time". Israel "wants to levy a heavy price" on the Hamas militant group, he said, flanked by his defence minister and political rival, Benny Gantz, in a show of unity.
    • "I think any country has to defend itself, and we'll do whatever it takes to restore order and the security of our people." There have been no signs of even a temporary ceasefire to collect dead and wounded.
  • UN chief Guterres called on Israel & Palestine to return to negotiations for a two-state solution while the UN warned the situation was headed towards an uncontainable security and humanitarian crisis.
  • While China accused the US of obstructing 'one voice' on the UN security council, calling on Washington to shoulder responsibilities and adjust its position.
  • Social tensions continue to escalate in mixed communities and in the West bank with multiple fires being set and stones being thrown. Additionally a vehicle attempted to Ram IDF soldiers at a checkpoint in East Jerusalem
