ISRAEL: Political & Security Cabinet To Meet To Discuss Looming Iran Attack

ISRAEL

The political and security cabinet will meet this evening to discuss the looming missile attack expected from Iran over the coming hours. The cabinet will meet at around 1930 local time (1230ET, 1730BST, 1830CET) according to IDF military radio.

  • As we noted in a previous bullet ('MIDEAST: Axios-Iran Expected To Attack Israel w/Fast Missiles Limiting Defences, 1617BST) Barak Ravid at Axios: "A western source with knowledge: Unlike the April attack, this time Iran is expected to attack Israel only with ballistic missiles that reach Israel within 12 minutes and not with drones or cruise missiles that allow for much longer preparation time for defense and interception". Such an attack would be viewed as much more escalatory than the April attacks, given that it would mean a much greater prospect of major damage and civilian casualties in Israel.
  • IDF spox RAdm. Daniel Hagari will deliver a press statement at around the top of the hour according to wires.
  • In the last half hour air raid sirens have sounded across central Israel, with residents of Tel Aviv instructed to remain near shelters. These sirens have been triggered by missile launches from Lebanon, not Iran.
  • There is a strong likelihood of flurries of headlines coming onto wires and social media regarding the heightened tensions and security situation in the Levant in the coming hours.
