Israel Reportedly Launches Strike On Iran

POLITICAL RISK

Israel has launched missile strikes against Iran, according to US officials (see this BBG link). A number of reports suggest that the Israeli attack was against a military base or bases in the Isfahan region (which also contains Iranian nuclear facilities). There is no indication yet that any nuclear facilities were targeted. Headlines have crossed from Iranian State TV that the country's nuclear facilities are unharmed. Markets will be waiting to see if there is an Iranian response to the Israeli missile attack, and/or follow up action by Israel.

  • There were also reports of missile attacks/explosions in Iraq and Syria, although details on this remain light at this stage.
  • Israel reportedly warned the US on Thursday an attack would be launched in the next 24-48 hours.
  • Per Reuters, Iranian Officials have stated that explosions heard in Isfahan were a result of the activation of Iran's air defence systems, while also claiming there have not been any missile attacks on the country.
