According to Barak Ravid at Axios the Security Cabinet meeting to finalise approval for a ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon is underway early. Initial reports claimed the meeting would start at 1730 local time, but it would seem it has started around an hour beforehand. Ravid reports comments from an unnamed Israeli official saying that US President Joe Biden will publicly announce the deal later today at ~2200 local time (1500ET, 2000GMT), and that it will come into effect on the morning of 27 Nov.
- Ahead of the expected approval of the ceasefire deal by the Israeli Security Cabinet - despite criticism from ultranationalist hardliners - the Israeli military has launched major airstrikes on the Lebanese capital, Beirut. The IDF claims "eight fighter jets carried out strikes on what it says was a Hezbollah aerial defence unit centre, an intelligence centre, command centre and weapons storage facilities. "Seven other targets struck were components of Hezbollah's financial system", the [IDF]says."
- While the strikes appear sizeable in scope it is unlikely that they, or the still-ongoing Hezbollah rocket launches into Israel, will derail the implementation of a ceasefire given the broad drive towards a cessation in hostilities from both Israeli allies in the US and Europe, and Hezbollah's backers in Iran.
