LNG

Italian regasification capacity utilisation averaged just over 55% in 2024, down 16 percentage points year on year, Platts said.

  • In 2024, utilisation weakened further due to maintenance at OLT Toscana and Panigaglia terminals. OLT Toscana maintenance cut 14 mcm/d of capacity from March-October, while. Panigaglia terminal maintenance is ongoing.
  • Among the remaining non-idled capacity, utilisation averaged 78% in 2024.
  • Italian regasification utilisation remains higher than NWE capacity due to stronger gas import needs.
  • Total installed regasification capacity will increase to 28.5 Bcm in 2025 with the new Ravenna LNG terminal.
  • Furthermore, 2025 utilisation is forecasted to average 70%, when excluding the new Ravenna terminal. The increase is driven by lost Russian pipeline gas.
  • In 2026, more contracted LNG supply from Qatar is expected and Italian regasification utilisation is expected to average 73%.
