Italy Imports 3-4mcm/d of Russian Natural Gas

Italy is still importing 3-4mcm/d of Russian natural gas, Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said.

  • Prior to February 2022, Italy imported around 40% of its natural gas needs from Russia. The country plans to phase-out Russian gas imports by mid-2024.
  • Since the start of the war, the country diversified imports with increased flows from Algeria, Libya, and Azerbaijan. Italy also plans to cover 50% of its natural gas demand with LNG.
  • Italy’s new Piombino LNG terminal will start commercial operations in early-July.
