Italy Replaced Russian Crude with Kazakh, Azeri, Libyan Volumes In Dec

Italian crude oil imports in December rose to 5.46mn tons, the highest level since August, while the country imported no oil from Russia for the first time since February 2021, data from Italy’s Ministry of Ecological Transition show.

  • Dec imports were up from 4.9mn tons in November.
  • Imports from Azerbaijan rose to 845,000t in Dec, up from 435,000t in Nov and the highest level since February.
  • Kazakh imports jumped to 774,000t, up from 152,000t the month prior and the highest since at least Jan 2019.
  • Libyan volumes climbed to 836,000t, up from 573,000t.
  • Imports also increased from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, the US and Nigeria.
