UK: ITV's Robert Peston writes: "According to senior Labour sources, Corbyn is
close to agreeing that shortly (days) after the loss of the meaningful vote by
May, he would formally make his party the champion of another referendum or
People's Vote - on the basis that if there is no consensus in parliament on what
comes next, the question has to go back to the people."
-Meaningful vote is due to take place on or around Dec 11th after five days of
debate in the Commons and the leader's debate is (tentatively) scheduled for
December 9th. If Peston's sources are accurate, it's likely Corbyn would argue
the 'People's vote' angle head to head with Theresa May.
-Colleague points out that Labour supporting a second referendum could
strengthen, not weaken, the PM's hand in voting maths, with hardline Brexiteers
more incentivised to vote for her proposals rather than risk a so-called
People's Vote and end up with no Brexit at all.
