CANADA DATA: January Building Permits +4.0% vs -3.0% expected

- January permits increased to CAD 9.2B mainly on residential permits; 

second highest on record. 

- Residential permits +12.7% to CAD 5.8B in January; largely due to 

increase in development fees and value of permits in Vancouver (+81.8%).

- Non-residential permits -7.8% to CAD 3.5B on declines in institutional 

permits; following a record high. 

- Residential permits declined largely in Quebec (-16.4%) and Ontario 

(-4.5%). 

- Toronto area city of Brantford reported the largest increase for 

single-family dwellings (+340.9% to CAD 41M). 

- January multi-family permits +17.1% vs. single-family +7%. 

- YoY: Total permits +11.2%; Res. +8.5%; Non-res. +16%.
