Japan Sep Ind. Output Dip Further; -5.4% M/M

  • Japan's industrial production fell 5.4% m/m in September after falling 3.2% m/m last month, driven by shortage of semiconductor and other parts, marking the third monthly fall.
  • Shipments decreased 6.2% m/m in September, led by the declines in automobile and electronic information industries, further down from 3.8% m/m drop in August.
  • Inventories rose for the first time in three months to 3.7% m/m, quickly up from last 0.3% m/m decrease.
  • METI sees production rising 6.4% (revised down from 6.8%) in October before rising 5.7% in November.
