Japan Mar Exports +4.3% Y/Y; Imports +7.3% Y/Y

  • Japan's exports registered a 4.3% y/y increase in March, slower than the 6.5% y/y growth marked in February.
  • Imports rose 7.3% y/y in March, following the 8.3% y/y gain last month, marking the 25th monthly rise.
  • Trade balance in March was a deficit of Y755 billion, narrowing from the previous Y898 billion deficit.
  • Exports to the United States and the European Union rose 9.4% y/y and 5.1% y/y respectively, and to China decreased 7.7% y/y.
  • Imports from the United States and China increased 9.6% and 12.3 respectively, and from the EU fell 6.3% y/y.
