Japan Mar Household Spending +6.2% y/y; 1st Rise In 4 Mths

  • Average monthly spending by Japanese households with two or more people increased 6.2% y/y in March, offsetting the previous 6.6% decrease reported last month, marking the first rise in recent four months.
  • Spending on food kept flat in March, after falling 4.2% y/y in February.
  • Spending on fuel, lighting and water rose 7.8% y/y, faster than the 3.5% gain registered in February.
  • The average real income of households with salaried workers fell 1.0% y/y in March, slower than the 0.1% y/y growth reported last month.
