Japan Jun Household Spending -5.1% y/y; 1st Fall In Four Months

  • Average monthly spending by Japanese households with two or more people decreased 5.1% y/y in June, compared with rising 11.6% y/y last month, marking the first fall in four months.
  • Spending on food fell 1.6% in June, dropping from last month's 2.1% increase.
  • Spending on fuel, lighting and water fell 5.8% y/y, expanding from last 2.7% fall in May.
  • The average real income of households with salaried workers decreased 11.5% y/y in June, following the 2.6% y/y decrease reported last month.
